Jay Thayer

Jay McMillan THAYER Jay McMillan Thayer died on September 28th after a long illness. Born in Wenatchee on December 3, 1955, to James Lewis and Buryl Stewart Thayer, Jay grew up in Spokane. He attended Lewis and Clark High School and later the University of Washington, graduating with a degree in English. He earned an MBA from Indiana University in 1985, and thereafter worked at a Manhattan ad agency. By turns, Jay wrote speeches for corporate executives in NYC and worked as a public relations specialist for the Long Island Public Hospital. A brilliant and humorous man, Jay loved the written word and was a poet at heart. He was most at home around common people, classic literature and his family. Jay is survived by his wife Laurie, his sons Joseph Greenough (15) and Ulysses Jay (13), his mother Buryl Stewart Thayer, his siblings James Stewart (Patricia) Thayer, John Lewis (Kathleen) Thayer, Joseph Thomas Thayer, and Constance Jill Thayer, and 13 nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday October 8th at 4PM at the Fauntleroy Church in West Seattle (9140 California Ave SW).
